By the way, I know for a fact that Nathan is what everyone has been saying about him: class-act!

WOW! After reading all this stuff about Matt Guyaux I'm perplexed at all the attention. I was not there. I did hear the story and I think I have everything correct. His tennis background is irrelevent. The insinuation of him going aboard(like 90% of satellite players do) because he "had to" is hilarious and has no relevance either. I guess all the Europeans playing the US satellite tour in the US are jerks and got forced to play over here too then. 99% of today's paddle players would not hold up to his resume and to use that against him is asinine. For the record, I think the ranking info is a off but, like I said, whatever. I don't have good things to say about James Blake in college tennis but I'm not making immature insinuations about him.
This "blog fraternity" is about as mature as the act itself. People calling for his head, wtf? Who's better Matt or the blog fraternity on all this? We have "MikeyC", on the APTA board, saying/writing this??? A blatant head shot??? Does Nathan, "the most standup guy in paddle" know the same paddle courtesies you're speaking of? Do you defend the blatant head shot? What's the difference? I'll tell you, he stayed on the same side of the net and essentially did the same thing. Tempers flare and no it was not a good move to do what Matt did but this emphasis on "crossing the net" is ridiculous. Did anyone do anything to Pascal Collard at the PA States when he got in Fred Gumbinner's face...on the other side of the net? Name one team that has NOT questioned Fred's antics on the court. But he's on the board and has friends there so... Chances are there alot more stories about him to start a blog than the handful of people on here about this incident. Correction, I guarantee it. Maybe I'm naive and this is a "trend" of Matt's but from my experiences he is not what you're making him out to be. Or everyone on here has never done something stupid/they regret on the court and I applaud you for being perfect. Suspending him is probably called for but the rest...

I have known MG for a while - he is and was a great tennis player, which is irrelevant here, and he isn't what this website is making him out to be. What he did was definitely wrong and he should issue an apology, be reprimanded and/or suspended. But Slice is right no one's perfect. I've watched Matt for years now in between injuries and he's an undeniable talent on the court. Paddle's a small community and unless you're going to hold everyone accountable who did what Matt did then the act loses its "negative value". We all think we have the right story but there's a Gumbinner and Collard in every region no doubt. Does APTA really know this "Mikey C" by the way? How do they feel about his latest comments "..moron husband/ugly wife"....wtf??! Did he learn that at an APTA board meeting? If the class act feels that way he should hang next to Guyaux since the guy "crosses the net" himself..one of those times ironically being in mixed last year. Free Guyaux!

i must say....very valid points...its a new way of looking at what happened and maybe not the wrong way....i will argue that his tennis resume is not better then 99% of current paddle players....but thats a moot point to begin with....i agree with most of what you said...i also think you are made a valid point about the message board and most of its posts...heck i am responsible for some of the mindless banter on here...but thats just it....its banter...i think the big issue here is that the paddle world is so small...and nate (know him or not) is friends with most of us...if not all of us...its like any other sport...you do something against someone everyone likes and everyone is going to hate you...i hope the air is clear next year on all of this...i think matt would be a great addition to this sport...the more top tennis players we can get involved the better the sport will be....thats my two cents worth...
Using the previously mentioned ranking numbers, and only those, you're telling me that more 1% of the paddle players today were ranked higher than 765(singles) and 454(doubles)? I'll even go as far to ask, did greater than 1% of today's paddle players play D1 tennis? This is changing the subject but I'm more curious than anything else. I'd like to know the numbers...

Hey, Free Guyaux- you should reach out to him & just have him issue an apology. You're right, everyone makes mistakes on the court. Guy Moore put someone in the hospital not even looking. Rick Summa used to stare at the screens after he hit a lob. People kick the ball under the net to the server...it all happens.
An apology should clear all the smoke...
Then we can all move on. Let's focus our energy on getting Dick Vitale off the air.

I have a pretty good scoop on all tennis players:
Let's see:
Caldwell: All-American at Chapel Hill and ATP Tour career high ranking #170 (16-Nov-98) in singles.
Jonason: played on the ATP Tour, career high ranking #784 (12-Jul-93).
Gambino: NCAA I college and a win over Sampras (and not in the 12s & under). Generally regarded as one of the all-time great NJ tennis players.
Bancila: #1 NCAA I college ball (Indiana I think) and was top 10 in the world 18 & under (ITF). Ranked in doubles on the ATP Tour (20-Mar-93). Heard he had some pretty impressive wins in singles and doubs.
Schmitt: #1 NCAA I college ball (maybe USC, out West anyway) and a career high ATP Tour ranking #492 (3-Apr-89).
Rothschild: NCAA I college ball at Notre Dame.
Parsons: #1 NCAA Top 10 in singles (NCAA).
English: NCAA I (Midwest)
Broderick: Connecticut
Additionally (info on them yet to transpire), the following players have solid tennis backgrounds:
Albrikes
Arraya (have you ever seen an Argentinian who is not a great tennis player?)
Durandt (tour)
Eberly (Ohio State, I think he's still enrolled)
Heil
