The Sound Shore Invitational tournament returned to Manursing Island Club after a year away due to Superstorm Sandy and featured some of the most exciting play of the season. For entertainment value, the semifinal between Juan Arraya and Alex Bancila and Drew Broderick and Anthony Cosimano and the final between Arraya-Bancila and top seeded Mark Parsons and Johan du Randt would be hard to top! In the end, Parsons-du Randt prevailed 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

Their run is officially over...but it was one for the record books! Corey Delaney and Nicky Ross, from Chatham, NJ accomplished something that no one else in the history of platform tennis has done: The pair claimed their sixth junior national title, at this year's APTA Junior Nationals. Additionally, they are the first team to win 5 consecutive gold medals in juniors and the first to win the 18 & Under category 4 times. Their other titles were in the Girls 12 & Under in 2006 and the Girls 14 & Under in 2008. The two play at the Noe Pond Club in Chatham. Nicky is currently a freshman at Washington and Lee University and Corey will be heading to Dartmouth in the fall.

Rage in The Cage

Garden City , NY During the weekend of March 19th & 20th, the Rage will return to Garden City! That's the Underage in the Cage event on Friday evening, for ages 6 and up as well as the adult Rage in the Cage Mixed Doubles tournament and party on Saturday. Both events benefit the Charlie's Champions Foundation, which raises awareness and funds to benefit the Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop University Hospital. Last year's event raised close to $70,000 for the Center! Perhaps we can top that this year! Those not playing can sign up for "party only", and sponsorship opportunities are available as well.
Garden City , NY During the weekend of March 21st, the herculean efforts of Charlie’s Champions Foundation friends and supporters raised close to $70,000 to benefit the music therapy program and the research program at the Cancer Center. This wonderful two-day expression of community spirit featured a junior paddle play competition (“Underage in the Cage”) Friday evening, bustling with 125 young boys and girls, and an adult version of the “Rage” with 60 nationally ranked and novice mixed doubles teams competing Saturday in “A” and “B” draws respectively. Growing up playing in Wilton, CT, the two didn’t want to give it up when they went away to school. Now sophomores, the two are making some progress. While the Mixed Nationals were being contested in New Jersey, the Chicago area held their own version of the Husband-Wife competition, known as the Illinois Married Mixed. With full draws in both the "A" and "B" divisions, tournament director Dan Williams planned for a great day of competition.
