| GROWING
THE GAME – IT TAKES MONEY & INVOLVEMENT
The American Platform Tennis Association (APTA) is dedicated
to growing Platform Tennis, all over the country and at all
levels. To this end, we have three key objectives:
1. Public Paddle Facilities: Ensure that more public facilities
are constructed both in areas that platform tennis already
exists as well as in new locations. At present there are a
number of major cities where public facilities are either
rare or completely absent. In order to facilitate growth,
the APTA is committed to focusing our efforts on this situation.
2. National Interclub Championships: Offer all levels of interclub
play the chance to compete for a national team championship.
We kicked off this initiative in March 2004 and plan to expand
upon the concept next year with more involvement from across
the country
3. Junior Paddle: Offer Junior paddle tournaments and clinics
in all parts of the country. Next year we are hoping to augment
the current schedule of Junior events with additional tournaments
in the Midwest.
In order
to achieve our goals, we need to raise funds to help pay/subsidize
the associated costs. Two new paddle courts can cost up to
$130,000.
The APTA is planning a series of events to raise this money.
One idea is a series of golf outings, as many APTA members
are tied into some of the most beautiful Country Clubs in
the nation. A number of our member clubs are home to the top
50 golf courses!
We are looking for paddle enthusiasts to help run golf outings
in your area. Anyone interested should e mail Mark Fischl
at mafischl@platformtennis.org.
Working together, we can and will grow this sport we all love!
Let’s start with this fund raising effort. Thanks!
