Preparing for the upcoming nationals of platform tennis are, left to right, Bob Considine of Katonah, Bill Taubner of Pelham Manor and Mike Cochrane of Scarsdale. Twelve platform tennis courts in Pelham Manor—eight at the NY Athletic Club and four at the Pelham Country Club—will be among the 84 courts in Westchester County where the American Platform Tennis Association’s finals will be played from March 21-25.

A total of 256 men and 128 women from across the country are expected to participate. The NYAC is having three temporary courts built by Rielly Green Mountain for the games and will have bleachers and a tented area at the NYAC Tennis House for spectators. Platform tennis was invented in Scarsdale in 1928 and is primarily a fall and winter sport. The court is 1/3 the size of a tennis court, the racquets are smaller and the balls are heavier.
