The First Buffalo Beach Tennis Tournament Bash held at Woodlawn Beach State Park in Blasdell, New York was just completed with players from far away as California, Toronto and Aruba competing. The tournament had 66 teams over 70 players and 8 divisions. Buffalo Beach Tennis produced the event in conjunction with Beach Tennis USA.

In the Men’s Open Division, Brian Johnson and Stephen Sayoc went through their pool giving up only 6 games in 4 matches. Bryan Matthews and Sam Korach went undefeated in their pool play and faced Bruce Vee and Dominic Eusanio in the semi finals defeating them 9-5. Brian Johnson and Stephen Sayoc went into the finals by defeating Clark Driscoll and Matt Manzella, 9-0. The Johnson / Sayoc team continued to play at a very high level beating Matthews / Korach by a score of 6-2, 6-3. This was Stephen Sayoc’s third victory on the tour, his second with the paddle and it was Brian Johnson’s first victory.
The Women’s Open had two four team pools with the top two teams going onto the semi finals. The top seed in the tournament Alison Tepas and Caroline Bristol played extraordinary giving up only 4 games in pool play. In the semi finals Tepas / Bristol beat Claudia Smolinski and Pam Almeter, 9-3. In the other half of the draw Taylor Cole and Ashley Chevallier defeated Lyn Matthews and Lynnette Diaz, 9-3. In the final Tepas / Bristol won in straight sets over Cole / Chevallier, 6-2, 6-2.
In what was the largest Mixed Doubles Draw in the United States, sixteen teams competed in four pools of four. Great fun and very competitive, the top two teams went into the quarter finals. In the finals Bryan Matthews and Alison Tepas faced Clark Driscoll and Amy Borden defeating them by a score of 6-4, 6-2.
The Women’s Open Winners Alison Tepas and Caroline Bristol and the Men Open Finalists Sam Korach and Bryan Matthews are preparing for the first Junior Olympics in Virginia Beach.
