9 of the top 10 men's teams and 14 of the top 15 women's teams wowed the crowds at this weekends event held at Waynesborough CC. The lure of $22,000 in prize money offered by lead sponsor - MARVIN & PALMER ASSOC brought them in from all parts of the country. Though friday's weather meant a day off from school, it threatened to hammer those traveling in for this, the highest money tournament in APTA history. By gametime saturday morning, the airport delays had been settled and the weary travelers took to the courts. For those brave local soles who wanted to compete against the best, they were not disappointed. The local highlight of the day was #1 local team Todd Marvin and Scott Falatek knocking off #3 seed and 3 time National Champion David Ohlmuller and Chris Gambino in a thrilling, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 rd of 16's. The quarters proved a bit tough for the local boys, but it proved even tougher for the #1 & #2 seeds as they were ousted by displays of skills unseen in the history of Philadelphia paddle. The blitzing, banging, driving, dodging of the players shows that this is not your momma's paddle game any longer, Sunday saw #7 Mike Stulac & Mike Marino finishing off the 4th seed Anthony Cosimano and Steve Haller 6-0, 7-5. full mens results
On the women's side the seeds faired no better. #1 & #2 went down in the quarter finals when locals Cindy Prendergast and Lauren Zink knocked off the #2 seed's in a 3 set thriller. Like Falatek & Marvin before them, they couldn't muster the same magic in the semi's losing to eventual Champions (& sister in laws) Bobo Delaney and Tonya Mangan. full womens results
Many locals did well in the back draws, though at the time of this writing results were not available. Needless to say a good time was had by all, and based upon the number of spectators that came out - many are anxious to try some of the new shots they learned!

The largest money platform tennis tournament will take place in Philadelphia February 23rd and 24th. Sponsored by Marvin and Palmer Associates the APTA Philadelphia Open will be offering $22,200 to the men and women who finish in the top ten of their respective events. In addition to Marvin and Palmer Associates, The Philly Open continues to receive strong sponsorship support from Hatzel & Beuhler, GlaxoSmithKline, MacLaren Fabrication, and Neil Bozentka, D.M.D. Without the local support we could never make this tournament the special event it has been over the years.
Simon Peppiatt, will be hosting the event. Four years ago, Mr. Peppiatt chaired the Men's and Wonen's nationals that were also hosted in Philly. His objective for the February 2007 Philly Open is to recreate that same electric atmosphere and excitement and Philadelphia hospitality. Simon and the committee will be providing lunches, dinners, umpires, masseurs and a whole lot more to make this event the one you wont forget for years to come.
