Unfortunately, we have had to postpone the Men's B portion of the Sound Shore Invitational. Entrants who have not already done so should contact us at news@paddlepro.com to let us know if you are available to play on December 1. Those who are unavailable for the postponed event are invited to stop by Fox Meadow on Saturday afternoon to enjoy a beverage and pick up their favors. Refunds for those teams will be issued next week.
Applications for this re-scheduled event are now open. We hope this gives those who were unavailable for the original date a second chance to participate. |

People turned out in droves at Fox Meadow Tennis Club to watch some incredible paddle from four of the nations top players. John Schmitt and Dan Rothschild prevailed in two sets (7-6, 7-6). The shot making and incredible athleticism from all four players made for a very exciting match for the 100 spectators. The weather was perfect on both days as it set the stage for a great weekend of paddle. Craig Nossel / Steve Shulman prevailed over home town team of Cole Barris / Jay Schwab in the B Draw.
The talk of the tournament, however, might have been the favor. Each entrant received and engraved stemless wine glass with a Siamese Fighting Fish (Betta). Some participants took home the favor with some confusion while most were excited to take it home for the kids. Not one of the 90 fish died and there was even an additional battle between two fish which was anticlimactic. (Siamese Fighting Fish are fiercely territorial and will fight each other if placed in the same habitat). |
Winners Dan Rothschild John Schmitt, Chairman Mike Cochrane and Finalist Mike Stulac |

It’s time again for the Sound Shore Invitational. Last years event was hailed by the top players in the nation as “the best tournament of the year”. This year’s event will be even better. Once again we will hold TWO Men’s Draws – Open Draw and a Men’s B.
Here are a few quotes from participants and spectators:
“I was so blown away by the level of play out here at Fox Meadow, that I went out and signed up for the Viking Academy so that I too could be that good someday.”
“I have never had gourmet food that good at a paddle event before….awesome!!” (referring to the catered event with carving stations in the evening on Saturday).
“Those are the best teams I have ever seen.” (referring to 7 of the top 10 ranked teams in the country)
“The best run paddle event…ever.”
The 2006 SSI will once again be held at the hallowed grounds of Fox Meadow Tennis Club (home of platform tennis) where the best teams in the country will congregate once again to compete for the title. Teams like Anderson/Stulac, Cosimano/Haller, Caldwell/Cordish, Rothschild/Schmitt, Cochrane/Gambino, and Ruppert/Wright are a few of the headliners at Region I’s premier event. There are teams traveling from all over the country to play in the 2006 SSI.
One more thing....expect something different this year….Stay tuned.
