CONGRATULATIONS to Juan Martinez-Arraya on his victory at the second annual Eastern States Singles Platform Tennis Championship.

The Greenwich Country Club is pleased to continue as host of the 2008 Eastern States Singles Platform Tennis Championship.  As the site of several past National Championships and last year’s inaugural Eastern States Platform Tennis Championship, we are excited to take he next step in the renewal of singles platform tennis at our state-of-the-art facility. Singles has a long history in the sport of platform tennis with the first National Championships being played along side of the first doubles championships in 1938. The National Singles Championships were last played in 1999 and with the inauguration of the Eastern States, we have laid down a course for rekindling the National Singles.  This effort is being backed by the APTA (ranking tournament), a number of the leading doubles players in the country, past Singles Champions, and others who appreciate the excitement, athleticism, pace and enjoyment of singles paddle. Once you have played it, you will truly grow to love it – it also may be the best thing that ever happened to your doubles game.

ELIGIBILITY AND COST:  Each entrant must be an A.P.T.A. member or pay a $20 APTA tournament registration fee. The entry fee for the tournament is $85.

TIME & PLACE: All matches will be played at the Greenwich Country Club beginning at 9:00 AM.

FORMAT:  The Main Draw will be limited to 32 players.  Consolation tournaments will be played assuringall entrants of at least 3 matches.  All matches will be the best 2 out of 3 sets.  The A.P.T.A. 12 point tiebreaker willbe used throughout.

SINGLES RULES:   Rules for singles are the same as in doubles, except for three exceptions.

  1. Each player receives two serves
  2. No-ad scoring is used throughout – receiver chooses which side to receive at 3-all
  3. The singles sidelines are used

VikingLUNCH: Lunch is included for all entrants on Sunday.
