The sound Shore Inviational will return to the Fox Meadow Tennis Club this year.
The Sound Shore Invitational is back for another season. Directors Kevin Dillon and John Walzer have announced that the tournament will be held at NYAC and area clubs and will feature the first Region I Men's Ranking Tournament as well as a strong "B" draw.
Once again, the area's senior teams will meet at Fox Meadow Tennis Club for the Sound Shore Senior events. The Men's 125+ (combined ages) will take place on Friday, January 16th. The Men's 95+ (combined ages) will beheld on Saturday, January 17th. Sign up early for these two enjoyable events!
It is time to clear your schedules for the weekend of November 22nd-23rd for the Sound Shore Invitational. This has been the scene for many great matches, great food and interesting favors. Sign up early, as both the Open and "B" draws have limited spaces.
Dear 95s of the Northeast,
Once again we will be hosting the Soundshore 95s at Fox Meadow. The tournament will be on January 19th. The eligibility will require the combined age of both partners to be at least 95 years old. The cost of the tournament is $120/team. Please sign up here If you have any questions, please call Tony Ettinger at 914-584-1214 or e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org Looking forward to seeing you fellow old timers for a lot of fun.
Congratulations to Gordon Teglas (White Plains) and Don Clark (CT) who limped their way through the field to capture the Sounds Shore Men's B title, defeating the father-son duo of Steve and Steven Trifiletti (Mamaroneck) in the finals. Steve Schwab and Gary Klein (Reprieve), Jack von Maur and John Rice (Consolation) and Chuck Reilly and Andy Regan (Last Chance) weree backdraw winners.
Unfortunately, we have had to postpone the Men's B portion of the Sound Shore Invitational. Entrants who have not already done so should contact us at email@example.com to let us know if you are available to play on December 1. Those who are unavailable for the postponed event are invited to stop by Fox Meadow on Saturday afternoon to enjoy a beverage and pick up their favors. Refunds for those teams will be issued next week.
Applications for this re-scheduled event are now open. We hope this gives those who were unavailable for the original date a second chance to participate.
Join us at Fox Meadow (and surrounding clubs) for the first Region I Men's PCQ and NRT of the season. We are sure that there will be a strong field for the "A" tournament, and are focusing on making the Men's B event a top-notch tournament as well. Find a partner and plan for a full day of paddle and food and fun!
People turned out in droves at Fox Meadow Tennis Club to watch some incredible paddle from four of the nations top players. John Schmitt and Dan Rothschild prevailed in two sets (7-6, 7-6). The shot making and incredible athleticism from all four players made for a very exciting match for the 100 spectators. The weather was perfect on both days as it set the stage for a great weekend of paddle. Craig Nossel / Steve Shulman prevailed over home town team of Cole Barris / Jay Schwab in the B Draw.
The talk of the tournament, however, might have been the favor. Each entrant received and engraved stemless wine glass with a Siamese Fighting Fish (Betta). Some participants took home the favor with some confusion while most were excited to take it home for the kids. Not one of the 90 fish died and there was even an additional battle between two fish which was anticlimactic. (Siamese Fighting Fish are fiercely territorial and will fight each other if placed in the same habitat).
Winners Dan Rothschild John Schmitt, Chairman Mike Cochrane and Finalist Mike Stulac
It’s time again for the Sound Shore Invitational. Last years event was hailed by the top players in the nation as “the best tournament of the year”. This year’s event will be even better. Once again we will hold TWO Men’s Draws – Open Draw and a Men’s B.
Here are a few quotes from participants and spectators:
“I was so blown away by the level of play out here at Fox Meadow, that I went out and signed up for the Viking Academy so that I too could be that good someday.”
“I have never had gourmet food that good at a paddle event before….awesome!!” (referring to the catered event with carving stations in the evening on Saturday).
“Those are the best teams I have ever seen.” (referring to 7 of the top 10 ranked teams in the country)
“The best run paddle event…ever.”
The 2006 SSI will once again be held at the hallowed grounds of Fox Meadow Tennis Club (home of platform tennis) where the best teams in the country will congregate once again to compete for the title. Teams like Anderson/Stulac, Cosimano/Haller, Caldwell/Cordish, Rothschild/Schmitt, Cochrane/Gambino, and Ruppert/Wright are a few of the headliners at Region I’s premier event. There are teams traveling from all over the country to play in the 2006 SSI.
One more thing....expect something different this year….Stay tuned.
