Brook Kindred has lost his fight with
cancer. For more than 40 years, Brook served the APTA and the sport of platform
tennis. He was an APTA Board Member, was instrumental in the formation and administration
of the APTA Umpires Committee, helped develop the concept of the current Hall
of Fame, and was a driving force behind the creation of a Platform
Tennis Museum.
While he did not live long enough to see this become a bricks and mortar reality,
his efforts, knowledge and guidance have been invaluable. continued... |

In the next
few weeks, Brook would have been inducted into the Hall of Fame
at the Sound Shore Seniors tournament. Sue Aery and Gerri Viant
will be inducted at the Women's 40+/60+ National Championships
on January 18th and Howard Sipe will be inducted during the 2006
Marsh APTA Nationals in Chicago. These events and many others
from now until the end of the season will require the services
of qualified umpires. Brook will be missed at all of them.
Services for
Brook will be held at St. James on Jan. 21st at 3.30pm followed
by a reception at Fox
Meadow In
