The STA was formed to promote tennis as a lifetime sport by providing affordable recreational, educational, and social programs for local players of all ages and abilities. Following their success on the large court, they have now set their sights on the platform tennis courts. The underutilized facility in Summit seems a perfect fit for this enthusiastic group.
With help from Patty Hogan, Keith Riggin, the Summit Recreation Board, Viking Athletics and paddlepro.com, 35 new players were treated to instruction and fun on the court. Gently used paddles were donated to the Recreation Department and new players can borrow them to get started in the sport. Participants in the event were each given the choice of a yellow, orange or pink ball to take home, so that they would be prepared for their next game. And those games have already been scheduled!
Cindy Stern engineered refreshments – including a propane camp stove for the preparation of hot chocolate. Steve Stenstrom was the official photographer for the afternoon. Dick Walther – a “super senior” – can’t wait to master this new sport!
Thanks to all who helped to make this a special day for public platform!
